The fear of buttons (button phobia)
For those people who suffer from button phobia, there isn't really that much information available about it.
I get lots of e-mail's from people around the world who, until they saw my website, really thought that they were the only one suffering from this particular fear.
The type, and intensity of the fear experienced by button phobics can be very varied...
- Some people are only afraid of buttons of a certain size
- Their children's clothing uses zips, elastic, velcro or other fasteners
- They may only have a fear of buttons made from a particular material
- Loose buttons sometimes bring a terror that a well attached one won't
- Uniforms etc can be unbearable
- The sound of buttons hitting together may be unbearable
- They may avoid contact with anyone who is wearing buttoned clothes
- Many people can't bring themselves to say the word 'button'
