What to expect if you stop smoking by willpower alone

Those who stop smoking by willpower alone, may suddenly realise that they used to be one of those smokers who, quite often, only smoked out of sheer boredom! - They may have smoked just as an excuse to ‘take a break’ from something boring.

Why does it happen?

They’ve developed a ‘conditioned response’ that dictates that when they feel bored, they feel the desire to go off and light a cigarette.  This ‘conditioned response’ is just like when your dog or cat goes to it’s food bowl when it hears you open the cupboard it’s food is kept in… it’s simply a learned response.

What you can do to help yourself

There are two main things that you could do to help yourself.

  • If you find yourself in a situation where you are likely to become bored, plan ahead, and think of other things that you can do to relieve the boredom, or just allow you to take a break.  Do a crossword puzzle, walk to the shops, do some knitting… anything to keep your mind and hands active for a while.
     
  • Secondly, you could consider a session of stop smoking hypnotherapy with me! - See below for an explanation of why this will help.

Why my clients find it easier

Part of the stop smoking hypnotherapy session is concerned with thinking differently about smoking, and the part it used to play in your life.  Over time, the thought of lighting a cigarette to relieve boredom, simply won’t be an issue anymore, because you will have moved on.

The 'need' to smoke comes from the individual's subconscious mind, weighing up the benefits of smoking, against the benefits of not smoking

The stop smoking hypnotherapy session sets about to change the subconscious balance, so that the person has no desire to smoke, because their subconscious mind finds that the benefits of not smoking, greatly outweigh the 'benefits' of smoking.

When this process happens, the mechanisms supporting these 'withdrawal symptoms' are no longer there.
