Side effects to stopping smoking by willpower alone - Irritability
What to expect if you stop smoking by willpower alone
Someone who tries to stop smoking by willpower alone, may find that they are quick-tempered, irritable, angry, intolerant and argumentative.
When to expect it
If someone has tried to stop smoking by willpower alone, may find themselves becoming irritable at any time, especially during the first week or two, but it may last as long as a month, or even longer.
Why does it happen?
Smokers who give up by willpower alone, quite often find it hard to maintain the level of motivation that they had when they decided to stop smoking. They therefore find it a struggle, and often feel resentful that they have had to give something up, when those around them are carrying on with their lives as normal. This resentment often leads to irritability, and the other symptoms mentioned above.
What you can do to help yourself
If you do find that you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is probably because you are feeling that you haven’t received any tangible benefit for giving up smoking. You might be looking forward to having more money, better health etc. in the future, but you feel like you’re making a sacrifice today. Once you get into this situation, there are two main things you can do…
- As soon as you either think or smoking, or feel irritability setting in, remove yourself from the situation as soon as you can. This will break the cycle of habit, and you can go off somewhere to calm down… take the dog for a walk, do some exercise, have a shower… anything that gets you out of the situation what is triggering your anger.
- Consider a smoking cessation session with me. Because I understand the mechanisms behind these feelings, they can be dealt with. If you are feeling irritable or angry, it simply means that you are fighting against a low level of motivation at the moment, and this is something that I can help with.
Why my clients find it easier
The 'need' to smoke comes from the individual's subconscious mind, weighing up the benefits of smoking, against the benefits of not smoking.
The stop smoking hypnotherapy session sets about to change the subconscious balance, so that the person has no desire to smoke, because their subconscious mind finds that the benefits of not smoking, greatly outweigh the 'benefits' of smoking.
When this process happens, the mechanisms supporting these 'withdrawal symptoms' are no longer there.
Stop Smoking Testimonials
"Hi Paul, hope you are well,
Just wanted to let you know it's been a week now since my therapy and I haven't smoked. In fact in a way it feels like I've never smoked.
I haven't had any cravings and I have no problem being around other smokers. The therapy has worked so well for me, I feel great and things in my life seem to be coming together nicely.
I have recommended you to 3 of my close friends.
I will continue to recommend you to people who could benefit from your treatment as I am over the moon with results I have seen in myself."
