Stopping smoking effectsInsomniaYour sleep patterns will have been affected by the nicotine while you were a smoker. After you stop smoking, your sleep patterns will take a little while to settle down again. If you find that you have trouble going to sleep at night, try a warm bath, or a soothing drink such as a milky bedtime drink. Your sleep patterns should soon get back to normal, and shouldn’t take more than a week or so. IrritabilitySome people feel irritable during the first few weeks after giving up smoking. This is caused by the body realising that it is being deprived of a poison to which it became addicted while you were smoking. It is during this time that some people use nicotine gum or patches, to try to combat the effects of nicotine withdrawal, but all this effectively does is postpone, or even prolong the problem. Along with many of the withdrawal symptoms you might experience when you stop smoking, just be aware that this is a passing feeling which will reduce over time, as your body comes to be less and less dependent on nicotine. If you are well-prepared before you stop smoking, you will be able to also prepare your friends and family, so that they will be able to support you during this time. Noticing you have more moneyTreat yourself ! 'Runny' nose after stopping smokingThis is because of the changes in mucus production during the first few days after you stop smoking. It will soon settle down, and is also a sign that the nasal passages are starting to clear of poisons they have built up over your time as a smoker. Tingling (of the fingers and toes)The extremities will have been the parts of the body most hit by the lack of oxygen in the blood, when you were smoking. Now that you have stopped smoking, oxygen has started reaching them again like it should, and they may start to tingle. This is a good sign that the blood is beginning to perform efficiently again.
