The Facts About Smoking

Will Power

Side effects to stopping smoking by willpower alone - Television

What to expect if you stop smoking by willpower alone

Someone who tries to stop smoking by willpower alone, might be surprised at the number of smoking ‘triggers’ that you have accumulated over the years.  Watching television could be one of them… they might find that they  light a cigarette whenever there is an advert break in the programme they are watching, or at the end of the programme.

When to expect it

If someone has tried to stop smoking by willpower alone, may find themselves wanting to smoke at any of the many 'trigger' points that can exist while watching the television.

Why does it happen?

Over their years of smoking, their mind has formed a link between some aspect of watching the television, and smoking.  So when they are in this particular situation, the link triggers a desire to smoke.

Over your years of smoking, their mind has formed a link between some aspect of watching TV, advert breaks, waiting between programmes, and smoking.  So when they are in this particular situation, the link triggers a desire to smoke.

What you can do to help yourself

There are two main things that you can do to help yourself...

  • By willpower alone, you will have to keep re-experiencing the situation, but this time without smoking, until it becomes second nature again, just like it is for a lifelong non-smoker.

  • You could consider a session of stop smoking hypnosis with me! - See below for an explanation.

Why my clients find it easier

The reason that this can be difficult for people who stop smoking by willpower alone, is that they think about smoking in these situations.

Once they have thought about it, they begin to build a desire to smoke, which builds and builds until they cannot help themselves, and they (eventually) give into their temptation.

The difference for clients who have been through my stop smoking hypnotherapy session is that they won’t necessarily even think about the act of smoking in the first place… with the originating thought removed, the desire to smoke cannot build, and so the person is no longer trying not to smoke, they don’t even think about it.

Think about a life-long non-smoker for… they don’t find it difficult not to smoke… it simply doesn’t occur to them in the first place.

Stop Smoking Testimonials

"You’ve completely cured my lack of willpower and confidence"

... a stop smoking client from Essex

"Hi Paul, hope you are well,

Just wanted to let you know it's been a week now since my therapy and I haven't smoked. In fact in a way it feels like I've never smoked.

I haven't had any cravings and I have no problem being around other smokers. The therapy has worked so well for me, I feel great and things in my life seem to be coming together nicely.

I have recommended you to 3 of my close friends.

I will continue to recommend you to people who could benefit from your treatment as I am over the moon with results I have seen in myself."

...a stop smoking client from Hitchin

"I was going to get back to you earlier but decided to wait until i had been through everything and still not smoked.

It's been 5 weeks and i still have not smoked, i haven't even had a craving!!

I dont know how you've done it and im sure a lot of it is to do with wanting to give up, i have been on holiday, been to family gatherings and all my family smoke, and even had emotional upset and i cannot believe that through all that i have not had the urge to have a cigarette.

I wanted to say thanks "

A stop smoking client from Bedfordshire

"She stopped smoking so easily after coming to see you, that I've come as well, because I want the same for me."
